Robert R. “Bud” Ovrom joined Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa’s administration as Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development on July 1, 2005. In that role, Ovrom coordinated the City’s economic development efforts and oversaw the

Departments of Planning, Housing, Community Development, Community Redevelopment, the Port of Los Angeles, LA Inc., Building and Safety, and the Housing Authority.

As of March 2007, Ovrom’s role changed. He now has responsibility and authority to provide oversight of all commercial and residential development projects across all City departments and agencies. His focus is on “bricks and mortar’ projects. In this new role, Ovrom oversees the Departments of Planning, Building and Safety, the Los Angeles Business Team, and the Minority Business Opportunity Center.

Prior to joining Mayor Villaraigosa’s administration, he was the Chief Executive Officer/Administrator of the Community Redevelopment Agency, a position he held from March, 2003 to June, 2005.

Ovrom, who is well known by his nickname, “Bud”, has held city government leadership positions for more than 30 years. Immediately prior to joining CRA/LA, Ovrom was City Manager for the City of Burbank for 18 years. Ovrom is credited with creating a business-friendly environment in Burbank that attracted substantial new and expansion businesses including, Disney, Warner Brothers, and NBC studios.

Ovrom also held City Manager positions in Downey and Monrovia, and was Assistant to the City Manager in Simi Valley.

Ovrom has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is married to Denise Ovrom and has two adult daughters.
